Shopping for swimwear is made tricky by foam cups, inserts and underwire lurking in swimsuits and bikinis. Catalogues and online shopping is even trickier as the descriptions are not always very detailed.

Below are some tips when looking for items to try on:

Zoggs and Athena do a nice range of swimming costumes with no support features and a range of styles and patterns which suit a flat chest.

Some items have removable foam inserts which you can leave in for some structure, or pull out:

Shirring, ruffles and frills add detail:

I haven’t tried it but apparently it works – if it fits but has integral foam cups attached to the lining that you don’t want, you can do your own alterations and cut them out!
